Covid-19 surge: Kerela announces lockdown from May 8 To 16

 

Thiruvananthapuram, May 6: Keeping in view of the galloping cases of Covid-19 in the state, the Chief Minister of Kerela, Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the state will go under a complete lockdown from May 8 to May 16 to restrain the rising cases of the virus.


The Chief Minister took Twitter to share the information. “The entire state of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6 am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong second wave of COVID-19,” he tweeted.

Earlier, a day before he hinted about a possible lockdown as he mentioned serious situation of Covid-19 calls for imposing more restrictions in the state.

Presently, night curfew was enforced from 9 pm to 5 am, with semi-lockdown-like curbs during weekends to curb the rising cases in the state but it could not restrict the rise of the cases in the state. As a result, the administration had to impose a 8 day lockdown to curb the rising cases in the state.

Kerala reported 41,953 fresh infections yesterday which is the highest since the outbreak of the pandemic last year. The positivity rate has reached an all-time high to 25.69% while the active caseload of the state reached 375,658 with the detection of the new cases.

Notably, May other states in the country also imposed lockdown to curb down the rising cases in their state.
