Former Union Minister and RLD Chief succumbs to Covid-19
New Delhi, May 6: The Chief of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and former
Union Minister Ajit Singh succumbed to Covid-19 while undergoing
treatment at a hospital in Gurugram on Thursday.
Earlier, he was admitted into the hospital on April 20 after he
developed some symptoms of Covid-19 where he lost battle to the virus
today, informed his son, former MP Jayant Chaudhary.
Notably, Ajit Singh (82), the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary
Singh was computer engineer by training from Indian Institute of
Technology, Kharagpur, and Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and
was serving in computer industry in the US for over 15 years before he
returned to India to enter the politics after his father fell ill.
Singh was a seven-time member of Parliament from Bhagpat, UP and served as civil aviation minister of the country. He also served as industry minister in the VP Singh government in and as the food minister in PV Narsimha Rao government. Further, he was made the agricultural minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 2001.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences over the death of the leader. He took twitter to share his condolences. “Saddened by the death of Union Minister Chaudhary Ajit Singh ji. He was always devoted to the interests of the farmers. He efficiently discharged the responsibilities of several departments at the center. My condolences to his family and fans in this hour of mourning. Om Shanti,” he tweeted in hindi.
